While in undergraduate school, I have held two marketing internships. Both roles offered valuable business experience and though they had a few similarities, they were also vastly different. Working at GDR Creative Intelligence in London, England and Clayton in Maryville, Tennessee further shaped my professional and leadership growth.

GDR Creative Intelligence

In the role of Trends Consultant Intern at GDR, I was tasked with researching trends primarily in retail and technology. This research would allow me to pitch content for case studies, and upon approval, I would write the content for our company subscription website "The Futures Vault". The opportunity enhanced my research skills and gave me experience working for a small company of only eight people.

Clayton

In the position of Marketing Internal Communications intern at Clayton, I assisted in design and content creation for web, email, and print. My team was comprised of four other employees, but I collaborated across many teams within the more than 2,000 employees at home office. For my main project, I was tasked with designing the internal website landing page for all 22,000 employees nationwide. This project helped me find balance between creative freedom while also staying cohesive with a corporate brand guide.

Reflecting on my Intern Experiences

Both experiences have greatly contributed to my marketing knowledge and skill. My time in each role confirmed my desire to have a customer or client facing role in my future career. I found that while I can work in both a small and large environment, I overall value a larger corporate culture with smaller teams focused on collaboration. These internship were amazing opportunities to learn hands on about the marketing industry and brought me excitement in anticipating my future career.
